Short biography

Gabrielle McKinnon is a Research Associate working on the ARC linkage project Australia's first bill of rights: Assessing the impact of the Australian Capital Territory's Human Rights Act. This project will assess the development, implementation and impact of the new ACT Human Rights Act over a four year period. A key aspect of the project will be to develop a framework to assess the contribution of this Act to the enjoyment of human rights in the ACT. Gabrielle also works on the Building Democracy and Justice After Conflict project and has recently looked at constitutional development in Bougainville.

Gabrielle graduated from the ANU with first class honours in law, and is an accredited specialist practitioner in the field of children’s law. She has most recently practiced as a children’s solicitor at Marrickville Legal Centre in NSW. Gabrielle is a member of the Juvenile Justice Advisory Council of NSW and has been a member of the steering committee for the Non Government report to the UN on the Convention on the Rights of the Child. She has convened the National Youth Advocates Network and the Youth Justice Coalition of NSW. Gabrielle has also practiced in intellectual property law at Freehills solicitors in Sydney.
